Guru Nanak National College, Doraha was established with the efforts of Late Dr. Ishwar Singh the founder President, S. Jagjit Singh Mangat the founder Secretary and other prominent personalities of the area like Pandit Kidar Nath Sharma, S. Beant Singh the former Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Gurbaksh Singh Katani, Sh. Kewal Krishan Tandon, Sh. Krishan Chand Thapar, Sh. Om Prakash Bector, S. Jagdish Singh Gill and many others. Inspired by the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Devji and dedicated to the 5th birth centenary of the great Guru, this College was established in the year 1974 to open the doors of higher education to the common people living in this small town and the rural interior. The campus spread over 17 acres of land was allotted in 1971 by the efforts of S. Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab. The Foundation Stone of the college was laid on 8th of September 1972 by Giani Zail Singh, former President of India and Chief Minister of Punjab at that time.

To begin with it was purely an arts degree college. But in response to the changing aspirations and needs of the people of the area aimed at the economic, social and cultural growth of the nation, Commerce and Computer Science streams were added in the years 1985 and 2001 respectively. With the vision and missionary efforts of Dr. Ishwar Singh; the commitment of the present management lead by Bibi Bhagwant Kaur as Chief Patron, Mrs. Roop Brar as the President and Prof. Balwant Singh Pangli the General Secretary; the leadership of the former principal S. Jaswant Singh Gill the director and hard work and dedication of the staff; the college has grown to be a multifaculty, postgraduate, co-educational institution with a separate wing for girls. You can see Guru Nanak National College, Doraha website.Earning the confidence of the parents, during this session the college admitted more than 1200 students among whom above 686 were girls. It runs courses like B.A., B.Com., B.C.A., B.B.A., M.A. (Punjabi), M.A. (Political Science), M.Com. and P.G.D.C.A. A variety of elective options including skill based subjects are offered at the undergraduate level to the arts students. The college also offers Add-on-courses in Computer Based Accounting and Fashion Designing with UGC support. To improve employability through additional skills the college provides certificate and diploma courses in Computer Science and Applications to the students and non-students. In addition the college provides certificate courses in typing and shorthand both in English and Punjabi. Special courses are provided in spoken English, computer literacy, personality development etc. M.Sc. (IT) and add on courses in Nursery Teacher Training, Animation and Graphics, Communicative English, Insurance Business and Advertisement and Sales Management are proposed to be started from the next session.

Having imbibed the philosophy of Guru Nanak and the Nationalist spirit of its founders, the college strives for spreading the light of knowledge; preparing the youth for the job market by imparting the necessary skills and virtues; guiding them to be better human beings by imparting high moral and civic values through various activities; providing equal opportunities for all irrespective of caste, colour or creed; uplifting the downtrodden; empowering women; and inculcating the spirit of nationalism and universal brotherhood.

The motto of the college, ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’, i.e. wishing good for all, as inscribed in the insignia, denotes that the College aims at the betterment of humanity.
